Street Art Supplies
If you want to make some graffiti, er, street art, you need to have the right supplies. Just going around with a can of spray paint in your hand is not enough to get the job done. You need to have professional materials in order to do a professional job. But yes, you will still need to have paint on hand to help you spread your message around town – and possibly on anything that is blank and waiting for you to make beautiful.
Spray Paints
Of course, you are going to need spray paint or some sort of paint that will show up on various different backgrounds. This will help you to make sure that your hard work is getting noticed by everyone, including the police. You can find high quality spray paints at your local hardware store, but be ready to show your ID as well as to fill out a form in some areas. If you don’t want to go through the process of getting identified just for buying paint, it can help if you buy other supplies with it, things that you might buy in order to paint a house. That should certainly get rid of any suspicion against you and the twenty cans of spray paint you have in your cart. Or you can try to order the spray paints online in bulk, to keep things from getting suspicious.
Stencils
If you want to create a very specific and consistent image, you will want to create a stencil of it. This will help you to begin to create something that will be able to be reproduced in a number of different areas. You can make the stencil and then give it to others to spread the image. Or the stencil can be of some words that will be a part of a larger artistic piece. Stencils allow you to create your idea ahead of time and then ensure that it is done as perfectly as possible. Some street artists love them, but that doesn’t mean you have to use them either.
Handkerchief
When you are out on the streets, spraying down walls with paint, you need to cover your face and not just from being identified. You might want to invest in a respirator to make sure that you preventing any particles from getting into your lungs and damaging them. If the respirator doesn’t look cool, then put a handkerchief over it. That will help to make sure that you are not identifiable and safe. And eye protection is also a must since you don’t want to blind yourself for your art.
Street art has helped to rejuvenate some cities, including Berlin. But while tagging is illegal, so is street art. So unless you get approved to do the work on the walls, then you might have to pay some consequences if you get caught. It might just be worth it, however, to see your city a little brighter for a few weeks.
